YOUTH PROGRAMS TO PRESERVE  COAST SALISH CULTURE
AND
INDIGENOUS ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

PictureRosie Cayou speaks to youth at Camp Orkila
The goal is to create the next generation of culturally engaged land managers. We know that indigenous peoples have been the longest running land managers out in the islands and we want to give them a chance to get their hands back on the land by involving youth directly with the current management agencies. We expose the youth to lessons on networking with agencies, environmental science and traditional cultural practice.

This is a paid summer job opportunity for indigenous scholars age 14-25.

Please contact sam.barr.we@gmail.com if interested in applying.

To be successful, we believe these youths will need this variety of skills and more!  That is why there is a strong cultural component and another important aspect of the CSYSC: the annual Mini-Journey in which local tribes travel by traditional Coast Salish canoes through the San Juan archipelago. During the Mini-Journey the participants share, learn and celebrate in the spirit of Coast Salish culture and stewardship.

It is an opportunity for tribes to share their story and promote their values while building positive relationships with the San Juan Islands’ community.
